Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen resume their campaign at the BayArena on Sunday.
Both teams have 16 points with Bayern just ahead on goal difference. The perennial Bundesliga champions are aiming to bounce back after being upset by Eintracht Frankfurt 2-1 at home before the international break.
Leon Goretzka put the hosts ahead in the 29th minute but Martin Hinteregger equalised just three minutes later. Filip Kostic then struck seven minutes from time to silence the crowd at Allianz Arena. The loss snapped Bayern’s nine-game winning streak in all competitions.
Robert Lewandowski, who leads the league with seven goals, will try to lead Bayern back on track along with Serge Gnabry and Joshua Kimmich. Benjamin Pavard is still serving his three-match ban and will join Kingsley Coman on the sidelines.
Leverkusen easily won at Arminia Bielefeld 4-0 in their last match. Patrik Schick scored twice while Moussa Diaby and Kerem Demirbay added a goal apiece to lead the team to their fifth consecutive win in all competitions. Schick is ranked third in the scoring leaderboard behind Lewandowski and Borussia Dortmund's Erling Braut Haaland.
It’s the second straight 4-0 win for Gerardo Seoane’s wards following their annihilation of Celtic in the Europa League. Schick has six goals in the Bundesliga this season and will be the main scoring threat for Leverkusen.
Robert Andrich will again miss out due to suspension while Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Julian Baumgartlinger remain sidelined.
Bayern have won their last four meetings against Leverkusen. The Bavarian giants triumphed 2-0 in their last encounter back in April.
