Burnley have a chance to reach the League Cup (Carabao Cup) quarter-finals for the first time in 12 years on Wednesday night when they host Tottenham.
The Clarets drew 2-2 at Southampton in the English Premier League last Saturday thanks to two goals from Maxwel Cornet but the Spurs suffered more derby woes with a 1-0 defeat at West Ham.
The Clarets drew 2-2 at Southampton in the English Premier League last Saturday thanks to two goals from Maxwel Cornet but the Spurs suffered more derby woes with a 1-0 defeat at West Ham.
Burnley remain winless in the Premier League but are given a legitimate chance to beat a Spurs team that failed to muster a single shot in the second half at the London Stadium on Sunday.
Clarets boss Sean Dyche is confident a first victory is “not far away” having stated he was “pleased with the overall performance level” at the weekend in Burnley’s third draw in four outings.
Dyche has picked reasonably strong teams for both Carabao Cup ties, with Jay Rodriguez scoring four second-half goals in a 4-1 victory over Rochdale in Round 3.
Ben Mee remains doubtful for Burnley while Dale Stephens is not expected to play.
Tottenham beat Burnley home and away without conceding in the Premier League last season but Nuno Espirito Santo's side seem to be lacking in the creativity department after losing all four London derbies against Crystal Palace, Arsenal, Chelsea and West Ham.
The Spurs also lost at Vitesse 1-0 in their last game in the Europa Conference League. Tottenham reached the last 16 by beating Wolverhampton on penalties in the previous round. The match resulted in a 2-2 stalemate in regulation with Tanguy Ndombele and Harry Kane netting home.
Ryan Sessegnon and Matt Doherty will not feature here due to injuries.
