Roy Hodgson left the Eagles at the end of last season and was replaced by Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira, who is 7/1 to be the first Premier League manager to leave a club.

The Blues hope to have re-signed Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan before Saturday’s game so let’s look at the markets and odds in our Chelsea v Palace betting tips.

Match Odds

The Blues enjoyed a 4-0 win against Palace at Stamford Bridge last season which they followed with a 4-1 win at Selhurst Park so we go 11/5 on a home win and over 3.5 goals as one of our Chelsea v Palace betting tips.

Vieira has brought in Michael Olise from Reading, plus centre-backs Marc Guehi and Lyon’s Joachim Andersen following a successful loan spell with Fulham but the Frenchman’s squad still lacks quality, especially with Eberechi Eze out for a few months with an Achilles injury.

Palace could not have asked for a much tougher start having lost their last seven meetings with Chelsea, who are 17/20 to win to nil, bearing in mind only Manchester City kept more clean sheets than the west Londoners last season.

On the flip side, we go 23/10 on a victory and both teams to score which was the case in four of those seven encounters.

Strangely, three of the last five clashes have been goalless at the break, which is 2/1, while an even first half can be backed at 11/8.

However, the Blues have such a wealth of talent in their ranks it’s hard to make a case for anything but a comfortable home win.

Chelsea are 20/23 to be ahead at half-time and full-time or 13/4 to be in front after 15 minutes, as they have been in two of the last three meetings, or it’s 7/5 on them to be in front after half an hour.

In our #GetAPrice specials, the FA Cup runners-up are 11/8 to win either half, over 1.5 goals in the match and Chelsea to keep a clean sheet which would have paid out in two of the previous four games between the teams.

Talking Tactics

Vieira went with a back four in the 1-0 pre-season win at Ipswich but opted for a three-man backline for the 2-2 draw with Charlton so it remains to be seen what shape he adopts for the new season, although playing the ball out from the back certainly seems to be the game plan.

Guehi began the last four friendlies and is likely to be in the starting line-up at Chelsea, who generally deployed a 3-4-2-1 in the previous campaign, with either Timo Werner or Kai Havertz spearheading the attack.

Goalscorer Odds

Havertz is 4/1 favourite to bag the opening goal, but Ziyech has looked excellent in pre-season and is available at 6/1 to break the deadlock or 11/5 to score, while Werner is 4/1 and 7/5 in both markets.

Ben Chilwell is always an interesting option as a goal-scoring left-back and is available at 12/1 and 4/1.

Christian Benteke and Wilfried Zaha have been among the goals in pre-season and are 10/1 to give Palace the lead or 7/2 to find the net.

Verdict

We recommend a price boost with Chelsea to win and more than 4 goals scored in this match.
