Round 12 of Italian Serie A opens on Friday with the game between Empoli and Genoa at the Stadio Carlo Castellani.

Empoli recorded a 2-1 win at Sassuolo in their last game to move up to 11th place in the league with 15 points. Andrea Pinamonti (penalty) and Szymon Zurkowski scored in the final seven minutes of the game to guide Gli Azzurri to their fifth win of the season.

Empoli boss Aurelio Andreazzoli will not be able to use suspended Petar Stojanovic while Jacopo Furlan is injured.

Genoa are just above the relegation zone with eight points. Davide Ballardini's side recorded draws against Spezia (1-1) and Venezia (0-0) in their last two games.

Genoa have a long list of injuries and among those who will not feature are Zinho Vanheusden, Nikola Maksimovic, Mattia Bani, Paolo Ghiglione, Francesco Cassata, Hernani and Mohamed Fares.

Genoa have triumphed in their last three meetings against Empoli, who last won a game in the series in 2015.
