Expect an intense duel between Greece and Spain in Group B of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers on Thursday.

The Greeks are in third place in the group with nine points from six games while the Spaniards are in second spot with 13 points. Sweden lead the group with 15 points from six games.

Greece suffered a 2-0 defeat to Sweden in their last game. Ethniki need to win this game to keep their slim chance of making it to next year's World Cup finals in Qatar alive.

Pantelis Chatzidiakos and top scorer Anastasios Bakasetas are suspended for Greece while Dinos Mavropanos is absent.

Spain beat Kosovo 2-0 in Pristina in their last game in September with Pablo Fornals and Ferran Torres providing the goals.

La Roja next beat Italy 2-1 in the Nations League semi-final before losing to France 2-1 in the final.

Torres sustained a fractured foot in that tournament and he will not feature in this contest. Ansu Fati, Gerard Moreno, Yeremi Pino, Eric Garcia and Mikel Oyarzabal, who scored in their defeat to France in the Nations League final, will also not play.

Greece and Spain last met in March where their game in Granada ended in a 1-1 draw. Alvaro Morata gave the Spaniards the lead in the first half before Bakasetas equalised with a penalty in the second half.

Verdict

Although they have many injured players, we still expect Spain to emerge victorious in Athens.
