Italy and Switzerland face off in a crucial match in Group C of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers on Friday.

The two teams lead the group with 14 points from six games and the Italians are only ahead on goal difference.

Italy and Switzerland's first clash in Basel in September ended in a 0-0 draw.

Italy last played in the qualifiers that same month where they demolished Lithuania 5-0 in Reggio Emilia behind two goals from Moise Kean.

The Azzurri beat Belgium 2-1 in the Nations League last month in their last game in all competitions. Nicolo Barella and Domenico Berardi scored to seal their third-place finish in the tournament.

Lorenzo Pellegrini, Nicolo Zaniolo, Ciro Immobile, Marco Verratti and Andrea Belotti will not be able to play for Roberto Mancini due to injury. Nicolo Barella and Giorgio Chiellini are not sure while Leonardo Bonucci is back from suspension.

Switzerland recorded wins against Northern Ireland (2-0) and Lithuania (4-0) in their last two qualifiers.

Breel Embolo scored twice in their win in Vilnius. Renato Steffen and Mario Gavranovic also struck for Murat Yakin's side.

Switzerland’s injury list is long. They are without Embolo, Gregor Kobel, Christian Fassnacht, Steven Zuber and Nico Elvedi in this game. They are joined by Granit Xhaka and Haris Seferovic on the sidelines.

Denis Zakaria can play again after being suspended.

Verdict

We support a win for Italy in this game.
