Leicester v Wolves match odds

Leicester defeated Manchester City 1-0 in the season curtain-raiser at Wembley last weekend thanks to a late penalty from Kelechi Iheanacho and are 7/10 to make a winning start in the league.

While little more than a glorified friendly, the Community Shield gave Brendan Rodgers the chance to give competitive minutes to James Maddison and Harvey Barnes, who missed large chunks of last season through injury.

The arrival of Saltzburg’s top scorer Patson Daka should bolster an already potent Leicester attack which managed 68 goals last season, with only Manchester City and Manchester United netting more.

With Jamie Vardy’s best years behind him, Iheanacho picked up the slack with 19 goals in all competitions and with Maddison and Barnes huge creative forces, the Foxes should again be full of goals.

They may struggle at the back, however. The loss of Wesley Fofana with a broken leg immediately removes the pace from the back line and he is a big loss.

Leicester are 7/2 to finish in the top four and are 50/1 for the title in the Premier League winner odds.

Wolves have installed Portuguese manager Lage (pictured below), who replaces Nuno Espirito Santo, as they hope to better a disappointing 15th-placed finish.

The departures of Diogo Jota and Matt Doherty, to Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur respectively, weakened Wolves long before Raúl Jiménez fractured his skull in a 2-1 victory over Arsenal at Emirates Stadium in November.

The west Midlands side won just three Premier League fixtures between late February and the season’s conclusion.

They are 9/2 to be relegated and 15/8 for a top-half Premier League finish.

After a productive loan spell last term, Rayan Aït-Nouri was signed on a permanent basis from Angers, while goalkeeper José Sá joined from Olympiacos.

Wolves also boosted their defence with full-back Bendegúz Bolla arriving from Fehérvár and centre-back Yerson Mosquera arriving from Atlético Nacional.

Wolves are 9/2 to win the game on Saturday, while the draw is on offer at 27/10.

Leicester v Wolves head-to-head

Opposing goals looks the way forward in Leicester v Wolves betting tips based on recent encounters, with the last four producing just one goal. Six of the last seven meetings saw fewer than three goals in total and it is 3/4 for that trend to continue.

Wolves have won just three of the last 18 meetings and have not won at Leicester since May 2007 so are 6/5 to avoid defeat on the Double Chance market.

Leicester have won four of the last eight clashes with three others drawn and the Foxes are 17/10 to win to nil.

Only four of the last 11 meetings saw both sides score and it is 4/5 that at least one team fails to net this time.

Leicester v Wolves team news

Leicester signings Boubakary Soumare and Ryan Bertrand are likely to start, although Rodgers will have to do without Fofana, Jonny Evans and Timothy Castagne due to injury.

Wolves have defensive issues to overcome, with Willy Boly and Yerson Mosquera doubtful to start and Lage may well opt for a back three of Conor Coady, Romain Saiss and Max Kilman.

Leicester v Wolves key battles

Leicester’s defensive concerns mean that Wolves will likely call upon the nippy but sometimes frustrating Adama Traore at some point and he is 11/2 to score at any time.

Goals are not always forthcoming in this fixture, but given the hosts’ attack-minded philosophy, this may be a more entertaining game than many expect. Leicester are 3/1 to win but concede and it is 14/1 that they win 3-1.

Verdict

Leicester are tipped to win their season opener.
