Manchester United get their Premier League under way on Saturday with a classic Roses battle against Leeds in the lunchtime kick-off.

The Red Devils, 8/1 in the Premier League title odds, hammered Leeds 6-2 in last season’s fixture in a match which saw Scott McTominay score twice in the first three minutes and are 8/15 to get their campaign off to a winning start.

Last season’s runners-up have made one major signing and another is close to completion so let’s look at the markets and odds in our Man Utd v Leeds betting tips.

Match Odds

United completed the £73million capture of England winger Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund during the summer transfer window and France centre-back Raphael Varane is due to follow from Real Madrid so they will be much improved for the start of the new campaign.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are 7/4 to win and both teams to score, as they did in December, but Leeds looked a different team in the second half of the season and deservedly drew 0-0 with their rivals at Elland Road so we go 13/4 on a share of the spoils and another goalless outcome is priced at 18/1.

Last season, Manchester United became only the fourth team in English top-flight history to remain unbeaten away from home but they lost six times at Old Trafford, including three of their first four matches, so Leeds are available at 19/4 to stun their illustrious neighbours.

Match Odds

United completed the £73million capture of England winger Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund during the summer transfer window and France centre-back Raphael Varane is due to follow from Real Madrid so they will be much improved for the start of the new campaign.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are 11/5 to win and both teams to score, as they did in December, but Leeds looked a different team in the second half of the season and deservedly drew 0-0 with their rivals at Elland Road so we go 13/4 on a share of the spoils and another goalless outcome is priced at 18/1.

Last season, Manchester United became only the fourth team in English top-flight history to remain unbeaten away from home but they lost six times at Old Trafford, including three of their first four matches, so Leeds are available at 19/4 to stun their illustrious neighbours.

The Whites, 9/2 in the Premier League top-six odds, have been fairly quiet in the transfer market but they have brought in Junior Firpo from Barcelona for around £13million as a replacement for left-back Ezgjan Alioski, who could not agree a new contract with the club.

Although the Red Devils raced out of the blocks against cavalier Leeds by taking a 4-1 half-time lead at the end of last year, they were level at the break in a Premier League-high 20 games last season and are 27/20 for an even first half in the Man Utd v Leeds betting tips.

Interestingly, Leeds, who are 11/2 in the betting without the top six, topped the table for match goals in the first half at an average of 1.55 but that number was even higher away from home at 1.84, so both teams to score before the break is available at 3/1, just like their first meeting from last season.

Our #GetAPrice specials offer 5/2 on Manchester United to win or draw, both teams to score in the second half and over 2.5 match goals which was the case in December.

Talking Tactics

Solskjaer preferred a 4-2-3-1 formation last season but may go with a 4-3-3 in the new campaign with Edinson Cavani flanked by two from Sancho, Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, with three from Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba, Fred or McTominay occupying the midfield places.

Marcelo Bielsa’s energetic side generally played a 4-1-4-1 last season with Kalvin Phillips operating as the holding midfielder/playmaker, although the Argentinian coach went with three at the back at the tail-end of the campaign.

Leeds fans will hope to see more from Spanish striker Rodrigo, who missed almost a quarter of the season with injury or illness.

Goalscorer Odds

Cavani heads the first goalscorer market at 16/5, with Fernandes and Greenwood not far behind at 7/2, while McTominay is 12/1 to repeat his early heroics from last season.

New signing Sancho is 11/2 to break the deadlock on his competitive debut or 15/8 to get on the scoresheet.

Patrick Bamford and Rodrigo are 13/2 and 8/1 respectively to grab the game’s first goal, while Mateusz Klich, who hit the target in the 2-2 draw with Villarreal, is 6/1 to find the net.

Verdict

Manchester United are tipped to win and both teams to score.
