Norwich coasted to the Championship title last season but have been handed the toughest of starts with Liverpool, Manchester City, Leicester and Arsenal making up their first four fixtures.

The Canaries, 10/11 to make another immediate return to the second tier, are 3/1 to finish bottom of the table and 17/2 outsiders to spring a big surprise by defeating the Reds at Carrow Road.

Manager Jurgen Klopp is starting to welcome back some of his key players missing for most of last season through injury so let’s check out some of the markets and odds in our Norwich v Liverpool betting tips.

Match Odds

It took a Sadio Mane goal 12 minutes from time to give Liverpool a 1-0 win at Norwich 18 months ago when the hosts were in the Premier League.

Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez were in the Reds’ starting line-up that day but serious injuries meant they missed most of last season, although both defenders are ready to return unlike Andy Robertson who is out with ankle ligament damage.

The Merseysiders are 3/10 to get off to a winning start and 13/10 to win to nil as they did in February 2020 while Liverpool to be ahead at half-time and full-time is available at 19/20.

That said, Liverpool scored and conceded in 20 of their 38 games last season – the sixth highest in the Premier League – so they can be backed at 13/8 to win by that method.

Klopp’s side were also drawing at the break in 10 of their 19 games away from home and they are 6/4 to be level at the break or it’s 3/1 on Draw HT/Liverpool FT.

One of our #GetAPrice offers has Liverpool at 6/5 to win or draw, Norwich under 0.5 goals in the first half and under 3.5 goals in the match.

In the handicap market, City are 29/10 to lose by a one-goal margin as they did 18 months ago or 3/1 to lose by a couple of goals in our Norwich v Liverpool betting tips.

Talking Tactics

Robertson could be out until after the international break, but there is a battle between Van Dijk, Gomez, Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konate to nail down two of the centre-back places.

Klopp is likely to stick with a 4-3-3 formation as he did for most of last season with Salah, Mane, Jota and Roberto Firmino fighting it out for three of the spots up front.

Norwich sold Emi Buendia to Aston Villa during the transfer window, but the Canaries raided Werder Bremen to bring in winger Milot Rashica and striker Josh Sargent from Werder Bremen, while Billy Gilmour has signed on a season-long loan from Chelsea.

Pierre Lees Melou has also joined from Nice so there is a fresh look about this Norwich team although their build-up was affected by a “small number of Covid cases” within their camp which resulted in the cancellation of the friendlies against Coventry and Sheffield United, concluding their pre-season with a 3-0 defeat to Newcastle.

Goalscorer Odds

Salah, Jota, Mane and Firmino are 5/2, 14/5, 4/1 and 5/1 to break the deadlock respectively or 8/13, 3/4, 11/8 or 13/8 to score at any time.

Norwich striker Teemu Pukki is the 13/2 favourite to get the ball rolling or 21/10 to hit the back of the net, while Todd Cantwell is 16/1 and 5/1 in the same markets. Rashica is 14/1 and 9/2.
