Southampton are aiming to get back on track on Thursday after suffering a humiliating defeat in their last game in the English Premier League but they face a re-energised Newcastle side who haven’t lost in their last eight league matches.
The Saints got a 4-0 beating at Aston Villa that ended their three-game winning streak across all competitions and seven-match unbeaten run. are currently ranked ninth in the table with 35 points from 27 matches.
Nathan Tella, Alex McCarthy and Lyanco are the injured players for Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhüttl.
Newcastle, meanwhile, extended their unbeaten streak in the Premier League to eight matches following their 2-1 home triumph over Brighton last Saturday.
Back-to-back goals from Ryan Fraser and Fabian Schar early in the match were enough for the Magpies to secure a second consecutive win in the league. Newcastle are currently ranked 14th in the table with 28 points from 26 matches.
Matt Ritchie, Isaac Hayden, Callum Wilson and Jamal Lewis will not feature for Eddie Howe’s side due to injuries.
Southampton and Newcastle battled to a 2-2 draw in their first meeting this season back in August. Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin struck for the Magpies while Mohamed Elyounoussi and James Ward-Prowse countered for the Saints.
