Australia have enjoyed a dominant run in these qualifiers.

The Socceroos kicked off the third round of qualifiers with a comprehensive 3-0 win over China in their Group B opener in Doha last Thursday.

Strikers Awer Mabil and Martin Boyle scored opening half goals, before substitute Mitch Duke sealed the win late in the match. Australia have now won their last nine matches.

Midfielders Tom Rogic and Aaron Mooy return to the squad after previously missing due to coronavirus restrictions. Forward Daniel Arzani also returns after an impressive display at the Tokyo Olympics.

Vietnam come into this match after suffering consecutive defeats. Despite a 3-2 loss to the UAE at the end of the first round of qualifiers, Vietnam had done enough to progress. Though their form did not improve in the next round as they suffered a 3-1 loss to Saudi Arabia in Riyadh last Thursday.

Nguyen Quang Hai scored just three minutes into the match but the visitors gave up three goals in the second half.

Australia and Vietnam have only met the one time back in 1967.
