Noted defensive guru Bill Belichick will need to pull out one of his all time game plans to give the New England Patriots a shot against the Dallas Cowboys.
The Cowboys bring one of the most productive offences to town and based on how Davis Mills dissected the Patriots defence last week, it could be a long afternoon unless Belichick can scheme up something that will confuse Dak Prescott.
The Patriots (2-3) needed a field goal from Nick Folk in the dying seconds to escape with a 25-22 win at Houston last week. They trailed by seven points entering the final period before tying the scores through Mac Jones' touchdown pass to Hunter Henry and Folk's subsequent conversion. It was a much-needed win for the Patriots, who had lost two in a row.
The NFC East-best Cowboys (4-1) are on a roll since losing their opener at Tampa Bay. Last week, they demolished the New York Giants 44-20 at home. Prescott threw for three touchdowns to lead Dallas to their fourth consecutive win.
To win this game, New England will have to find a way to keep Dallas below 24 points as their own offence has been very hit and miss in terms of overall execution and does not look capable of scoring much more than that, even against a lacklustre Cowboys defence.
The Patriots have won their last six meetings against the Cowboys but this is the first encounter between the two sides since 2019.
