The New Zealand Warriors let one slip in going down 24-22 to the Broncos last week.
Reece Walsh kicked just one of five while the Warriors scored five tries to the Broncos’ four. The Canberra Raiders, on the other hand, will feel pretty encouraged by their 19-18 loss to the Sea Eagles.
Chanel Harris-Tavita’s latest injury sees Sean O’Sullivan partner Chad Townsend in the Warriors halves. Kodi Nikorima and Matt Lodge also return this week. The Raiders also have a change in the halves with Matt Frawley replacing Sam Williams. Corey Horsburgh joins the bench.
The Warriors have done exceptionally well to stay in the hunt for the Top 8 for as long as they have without playing particularly well. Although, last week was one of their best performances of the 2021 NRL season.
Harris-Tavita’s injury is a big issue, though. He is a key part of the Warriors attack and they’re now left with O’Sullivan and Townsend in the halves – two players with a very similar style. Like last week, the middle is all-important for the Raiders. They’ll do well to dominate but should be able to hold their own for enough lengthy periods to earn sets inside the opposition 20-metre line.
