The Parramatta Eels (13-4, 28 points) have won four of their last five. All four of those wins have come by 13+ with their 26-8 win the closest any of the losing teams have come. Meanwhile, back-to-back wins have the Canberra Raiders (7-10, 16 points) on the up as they look to get their NRL season back on track.
Mitchell Moses is out for the Eels with a back fracture leaving Jakob Arthur to start in the halves. Tom Opacic and Haze Dunster are also out with Will Penisini to make his NRL debut in the centres and Blake Ferguson recalled to the wing. Similarly, the Raiders lose Jack Wighton and Xavier Savage for this one. Jordan Rapana drops to fullback, Harley Smith-Shields is onto the wing and Matt Frawley is the new five-eighth.
Only the Panthers have managed to beat the Eels in recent weeks. For the most part, nobody has been able to keep close to the blue and gold as they run the opposition off the field. However, we’ve seen enough out of the Raiders to be optimistic.
They put 30 points on a depleted Sea Eagles side and comfortably handled the Sharks scoring another 34 points last week. While those two teams aren’t at the same level as the Eels, the improvements of Josh Hodgson, Joseph Tapine and Corey Harawira-Naera can still translate into a strong 80 minutes on Thursday night.
The Eels blasted the Raiders 35-10 in their Round 6 showdown at GIO Stadium last April.
