The Sydney Roosters didn’t dominate the full 80 minutes but did still managed to thump the Dragons 40-22 in Round 23.
Similarly, the South Sydney Rabbitohs dominated the first 30 minutes of their 25-12 loss to the Panthers.
Adam Keighran and Nat Butcher aren’t available for the Roosters this week. Lachlan Lam is into the centres and Egan Butcher will start on the edge. Ben Marschke and Naufahu Whyte joins the bench while Brad Abbey has been named on the wing to play his first NRL game since 2018.
Jaydn Su’A returns for the Rabbitohs to replace Keaon Koloamatangi and, surprisingly, Jaxson Paulo replaces Josh Mansour ahead of Taane Milne.
The Rabbitohs defence impressed last week. It has been their biggest issue throughout the NRL season but displayed promising signs of improvement against a patient and clinical Panthers side. With those improvements and their scintillating attack in full swing despite only scoring 16 points last week, the Rabbitohs should get back to their winning ways on Friday night.
Unlike other teams, expect Wayne Bennett to form a plan to capitalise on Sydney’s injury issues. Lachlan Lam in the centres, for one. Provided he is a direct replacement for Keighran on the left edge, the diminutive Lam is up against a much bigger Campbell Graham who hits lines out wide as well as most backrowers in the competition.
