The Wests Tigers looked slightly improved in their 30-16 loss to the Panthers but ultimately never gave themselves a chance to cause an upset.
It’s a similar story for the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs who fell 36-18 to the Sea Eagles in yet another Tom Trbojevic masterclass.
Michael Maguire has been forced into one change to his Tigers side with Kelma Tuilagi replacing Alex Seyfarth on the bench. For the Bulldogs, Corey Waddell returns to take Mott Doorey’s place on the edge as the only confirmed change. Dylan Napa and Jake Averillo are on the extended bench and a chance at coming into the side closer to kickoff.
Such is the season and recent form of the Tigers, they’re only minor favourites to beat the Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon. Wests issue is in defence and it is highlighted most in the effort areas. They’re not interested in playing without the ball and that is further evidenced by the sudden rise in intensity when they’re on attack. While they can certainly pile up points in a hurry and start to put this one to bed early, the Bulldogs can play themselves into this one.
A strong start in defence for the Bulldogs will begin to frustrate the Tigers. They’ve not responded well to those situations throughout the year, and given their struggles in defence, opportunities will present for the Bulldogs. We’re relying on one of the worst teams in NRL history to turn up and put in a strong effort in Round 25, but the Bulldogs seem to be the more trustworthy side. They fight through games even when the opposition starts to pull away. The same can’t be said for a Tigers side that has a tendency to roll over the second things get difficult.
