Argentina have been far from their best in the 2021 Rugby Championship while Australia have shown great improvements over the last three weeks.
I am backing Australia to beat Los Pumas by more than 16 points yet again. Australia have won three of their last six matches against Argentina. That run includes the two draws of 2020. Last week, Australia comfortably beat Argentina 27-8 at Queensland Country Bank Stadium.
Australia have certainly turned the corner in terms of results. They were in a bad place a few weeks ago after three humbling defeats to New Zealand.
The Wallabies were magnificent in their two victories over the world champions Springboks. The catalyst for the 28-26 and 30-17 defeat was the return of experienced flyhalf, Quade Cooper.
Last week’s 27-8 victory over Argentina was just as impressive. Dave Rennie has somehow changed the Aussie fortunes in a matter of weeks and they will want to end the Rugby Championship on a high.
Jordan Petaia returns to the starting lineup on the wing. Greg Holmes has made it onto the Wallaby bench and when he comes on will be the oldest players at 38 to play for Australia since World War.
Argentina have endured an atrocious 2021 Rugby Championship in which they have lost all five matches. What will be most concerning is that they have not really come close in any of their fixtures.
Before departing for Australia, Argentina were heavily beaten on successive weekend’s by South Africa. That was followed by 39-0 and 36-13 defeats to New Zealand.
Australia is the fixture Argentina would naturally have targeted to get the win but lost 27-8 last weekend. Bubble life is certainly starting to affect the Argentines however so they may well be looking forward to their flight more than this match.
Six of Argentina’s have been banned from the Rugby Championship after breaching COVID-19 protocols.
Pablo Matera and Santiago Medrano are the two first-team regulars who will not feature. The other four include Santiago Socino, Joaquin Diaz Bonilla, Felipe Excurra and Sebastian Cancelliere.
Australia beat Argentina 27-8 last weekend and are backed to once again win by more than 16. The in-form Andrew Kellaway is backed to score anytime with value offered on him in the first tryscorer market as well.
