Alexander Zverev takes on Lloyd Harris in the US Open quarter-finals on Wednesday with the No. 4 seed German tipped to extend his unbeaten run and progress to the last four.
Zverev’s gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics, beating Novak Djokovic en route to the title, was the first part of a glorious hard court summer for the German.
He went on to take the title in Cincinnati, and has now made a fine run to the quarters in New York.
Having only dropped one set so far, Zverev has conserved energy and that may well be vital against Harris.
Harris has played a lot of tournaments this summer, and that has borne fruit at the US Open with the South African seeing off some difficult opponents so far.
He beat Olympic finalist Karen Khachanov in the first round, saw off seventh seed Denis Shapovalov in the third round, before neutering the big serving of Reilly Opelka on Monday.
Harris lost to Zverev in Cincinnati just three weeks ago though, and he’ll need to have learned quickly from that match if he wants to go any further here.
The pair have met twice before, with their most recent meeting in Cincinnati earlier this summer going the way of Zverev in straight sets.
