Emma Raducanu hasn’t lost a set at the US Open but hasn’t faced a Top 10 player while Leylah Fernandez has beaten three Top 5 players on her way to the final.
Raducanu reached the fourth round at Wimbledon as a wild card. She was forced to retire against Ajla Tomljanovic in her first Grand Slam appearance.
The 18-year-old Briton reached the Chicago 125 final in August where she lost in 3 sets against Clara Tauson.
The World No. 150 hasn’t lost a set at the US Open which included three qualifiers.
Raducanu beat Stefanie Voegele, Shuai Zhang, Sara Sorribes Tormo, Shelby Rogers, Belinda Bencic and Maria Sakkari in the main draw.
Fernandez won her first title in Monterrey in March but struggled for consistency since.
The Canadian has been on fire at the US Open though. She beat Ana Konjuh and Kaia Kanepi in straight sets but has needed 3 sets in her last four wins.
And they have come against some top quality opponents. The 19-year-old beat Naomi Osaka, Angelique Kerber, Elina Svitolina and Aryna Sabalenka.
This will be the first match between Raducanu and Fernandez, who were both born in 2002.
