Fourth seed Karolina Pliskova is tipped to take advantage of Maria Sakkari's marathon fourth round victory.
A tired Sakkari's run is predicted to come to an end. It’s been a solid North American hard court swing for Pliskova, reaching the final in Montreal and the semis in Cincinnati.
She has continued her good form in New York and has only dropped one set so far. The Czech has reached the final here before – as well as two other quarter-finals – and that experience should stand her in good stead against Sakkari.
Sakkari is having the best season of her career in terms of Grand Slam performances. The 17th-seeded Greek has backed up her semi-final at Roland Garros with another quarter-final here – at least – and her durability and shot-making have impressed once again.
But what has she got left after her three-and-a-half hour win over Bianca Andreescu in the fourth round?
Pliskova and Sakkari have met twice, with the Czech winning their most recent meeting at the 2019 Rome Masters in straight sets.
