Djokovic has won in 4 sets in four of his five matches at the US Open. He beat Matteo Berrettini 5-7 6-2 6-2 6-3 in the quarter-finals.
Zverev has won four titles in 2021. He won in Acapulco in March, the Madrid Masters in May, Tokyo Olympics in July and Cincinnati Masters in August.
The 24-year-old has won his last 16 matches which includes victories against Djokovic, Casper Ruud, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Andrey Rublev.
The German cruised through the opening two rounds at the US Open. He lost the first set against Jack Sock in the third round before the American retired in the fourth set.
Zverev beat Jannik Sinner and Lloyd Harris to progress to the semi-finals.
Djokovic has a 6-3 advantage against Zverev in their head-to-head duels. Djokovic won the first two encounters in 2021 before Zverev triumphed 1-6 6-3 6-1 in the Tokyo Olympics semi-finals.
