Carlos Alcaraz is a rising star in men’s tennis and just beat World No. 3 Stefanos Tsitsipas.

The 18-year-old can get past Peter Gojowczyk to reach the US Open quarter-finals. The teenager reached the Marbella Open semi-finals in April, won the Oeiras Challenger in May and won his first ATP title in Umag in July.

The Spaniard switched to hard courts and suffered a first-round defeat in Cincinnati. He performed better in Winston-Salem where he reached the semi-finals.

Alcaraz beat Cameron Norrie and Arthur Rinderknech at the US Open before an epic match against Tsitsipas. He won 6-3 4-6 7-6 0-6 7-6 in the third round, a match to remember.

Gojowczyk started 2021 on the Challenger circuit. His best results of the year came in a semi-final run in Montpellier in February and quarter-final appearance at Newport in July.

The World No.141 qualifier has surprised many in New York. Gojowczyk beat Ugo Humbert and Dusan Lajovic in 5 sets, losing the first set on each occasion. He beat World No. 130 Henri Laaksonen 3-6 6-3 6-1 6-4 in the third round.

This will be the first match between Alcaraz and Gojowczyk.

Verdict

Carlos Alcaraz is playing with no fear and will relish the chance to reach the US Open quarter-finals. I am backing the 18-year-old to keep winning in New York.
