Huddersfield vs Derby County Preview, Predictions, Betting Tips and Free Bets

After being relegated from the Premier League in their last campaign, Huddersfield Town host Derby County on Monday night in their opening fixture.

Both sides will have something to prove following disappointing ends to last season, and Derby County will also come into the game under the guidance of new manager, Phillip Cocu, after Frank Lampard's departure this Summer.

Huddersfield Town Form & Team News

Huddersfield suffered a horrendous campaign last season, and the Terriers will be doing their utmost to get back on the right track this season.

Jan Siewert's men finished 20 points from safety in the Premier League, achieving just 16 points in the division over the course of the season.

This season is a fresh start for Huddersfield in a number of ways, with the chairman, Dean Hoyle also leaving the club at the end of last campaign.

It's been a summer of steady rebuilding for The Terriers, and a comfortable mid-table finish will give the club something to build on in the coming seasons.

Siewert has a mostly fit squad to choose from, with Demeaco Duhaney and striker, Steve Mounie the only players likely to not make the game having more picked up minor injuries.

The team will kick off their new league campaign having gone unbeaten throughout pre-season, which should provide the team with a much-needed confidence boost.

Derby County Form & Team News

Derby County have had a wild ride since May. After securing a spot in the playoffs with a dramatic last-day victory over Leeds, the club were defeated in the Championship play-off final by Aston Villa in dramatic fashion.

Following that defeat, manager Frank Lampard left the club to join Premier League, Chelsea, and the club appointed former Dutch international, Phillip Cocu as their new manager.

Lampard wasn't the only influential figure to have the club though, with highly-rated youngsters, Fikayo Tomori, Mason Mount and Harry Wilson all having rejoined their parent clubs following successful loan spells.

Derby have a much smaller squad this season than they did last year, but the last-minute additions of Krystian Bielik from Arsenal and Matt Clarke from Brighton should give them a boost and both men should be in the squad for Monday's game.

On the pitch, the Rams have had some good tests in pre-season, picking up three victories and losing narrowly to Steven Gerrard's Rangers in their final game.

Huddersfield Town Vs Derby County Head to Head Record

The last time these two teams met was a 1-1 draw in Huddersfield's promotion-winning campaign back in 2017.

Prior to that, Huddersfield had only registered two victories against Derby in their previous 10 encounters.

Huddersfield Town Vs Derby County Match Up

Both Huddersfield and Derby will be using this season as a chance to rebuild following dramatic campaigns last time around, though, both sides could easily push for the playoffs if they managed to hit their stride.

Derby's new boys will likely be thrown straight into the mix, which could prove to be a key factor in the outcome of the match.

Of the two sides, Huddersfield certainly appear more settled, with Derby entering the new season with a degree of uncertainty about their approach and style.
