Port Vale vs Shrewsbury Town Tips, Predictions & Free Bets

Port Vale welcome local rivals Shrewsbury Town to Vale Park this week in the first round of the English Football League Trophy. The two clubs have both had mixed starts to their campaigns and a draw is my tip for their game this week.

Port Vale Form & Team News

Port Vale come into Tuesday’s game against Shrewsbury off the back of a 1-0 win against Cambridge United at the weekend. Leon Davies scored an unfortunate own goal to hand the victory to Vale on Saturday afternoon.

John Askey’s team have had a mixed start to their season so far. The Valiants find themselves in 10th place in League Two having won two, drawn three and lost one of their opening six games so far this season.

Askey is likely to make some changes to his team on Tuesday night. Tom Pope and Mark Cullen are likely to be handed starts while Jake Taylor may be handed a full game after making a cameo appearance on Saturday against Cambridge.

Port Vale are currently priced at 2.60 with bet365 to pick up the victory against Shrewsbury. This bet may offer some value. Shrewsbury’s team sheet will be the biggest factor in deciding this result.

Shrewsbury Town Form & Team News

Shrewsbury Town come into this game off the back of a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Ipswich Town in League One.

Salop’s last away game saw them come back from 2-0 to Accrington Stanley, with late goals from Daniel Udoh, Fejiri Okenabirhie and an Accrington Stanley own-goal handing them the win.

Manager Sam Ricketts has an ever-growing injury list. Okenabirhie is out for around a month while Daniel Udoh is also not likely to be fit for Tuesday’s game. Oliver Norburn is close to a return but will not be eligible on Tuesday either. Defender Ro-Shaun Williams is also unfit still.

Sam Ricketts made eight changes to his team in their last cup game against Rotherham and he may do something similar away at Vale. James Rowlands, Joe Murphy, Brad Walker and Luke McCormick could help make appearances for the Shropshire based side.

Shrewsbury are priced at 3.25 to pick up the victory. The club are a division higher than their rivals but could field a much weaker team than them.

Port Vale vs Shrewsbury Match Analysis - Goals at Vale Park

Port Vale and Shrewsbury have developed a heated rivalry over the years. This will also be the first time John Askey has faced Shrewsbury Town since leaving the club and that will no doubt add to the atmosphere at Vale Park.

The two teams have seen both teams score when they have played each other in five of their last encounters. They played each other in this competition last season, with Vale winning on penalties after the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

Sam Ricketts has a habit of trying out youngsters in these games which could give Vale a slight edge. A score draw seems like a more likely outcome though.

Port Vale vs Shrewsbury Betting Tips - Score Draw on the Cards

Port Vale and Shrewsbury have always put on entertaining encounters and the team’s fringe players will both want to impress their respective managers.

A draw for the game is priced at 2.75 and presents great value. A bet on both teams to score also offers odds of 1.73 is also excellent value and is my tip for the match.
