Ajax vs APOEL Nicosia Tips, Predictions & Free Bets

Ajax welcome Cypriot champions APOEL Nicosia to the Johan Cruyff Arena in Amsterdam this Wednesday night. Ajax were left frustrated in Cyrpus last week when the first leg between the two teams ended 0-0 and they now must win this game to ensure that they qualify for this year's Champions League

Ajax Form & Team News

Last season’s Champions League semi-finalists Ajax come into this week’s game on the back of an eight-game unbeaten run. They have also won three of their last four games in all competitions.

Their last match was last week’s 0-0 draw with Wednesday’s opponents APOEL Nicosia. Notably, that match was the first time they had failed to score in the Champions League in 15 outings. They will feel fairly pleased with the result though and should be confident on their home turf.

With no new injury concerns facing manager Erik ten Hag, though, they will be without defender Noussair Mazraoui after he picked up a booking in last week’s match.

Ajax are strong favourites to win the match, with bet365 pricing them at 1.16 to pick up the victory and progress.

APOEL Nicosia Form & Team News

Like Ajax, APOEL did not have a game this past weekend so their last match was last week’s 0-0 draw with their opponents.

Apoel will have been happy to take the draw in the home leg, knowing that a score draw in Amsterdam will now see them progress through to this year’s Champions League tournament.

The Cypriot side pulled off an away win in the last round of the tournament. Defeating Qarabag 2-0 in Baku thanks to goals from Tomas De Vicenti and Uros Matic after losing the first leg 2-1 at home.

APOEL have proven themselves to be a resilient side, and have kept five clean sheets in their last six games in the competition. They frustrated Ajax last week and will look to do the same thing on Wednesday night.

Manager Paolo Tramezzani is likely to name the starting 11 as he did last week with Andrija Pavlovic and Uros Matic leading the line once again. Tramezzani’s squad have no injuries or suspensions at the moment.

APOEL are all the way out at 13.00 for this match, which is a highlight of the difference in quality between the players.

Ajax vs APOEL Nicosia Match Analysis - Ajax to make it to the Champions League

After being so impressive in last year’s Champions League, it is almost a shock to see Ajax struggling their way through this year’s qualification process.

The Amsterdam side are very capable on their home patch though and have only lost one of their last ten games at the stadium in all competitions. They have also only lost one of their last eight matches in the Champions League and should have more than enough quality to see off APOEL.

Ajax vs APOEL Nicosia Betting Tips - Ajax Win to Nil

APOEL have proven themselves to be worthy competition for Ajax but the Johan Cruyff Stadium is a hostile place to go for away teams.

The gulf in quality between the two teams is apparent in the odds and there is little to no value in betting on Ajax to win at 1.16. A bet on them in the win to nil market presents much better value at odds of 1.83 and that is our tip for the match.
